Desert Bighorn Sheep

My dad and I were out driving around an area of Nevada in the East Gate area scouting out the area. We passed one of the Yellow signs with a deer silhouette on it warning you to watch for deer and then shortly after passed one with a silhouette of a Big Horn Sheep on it, when we saw that my dad commented that it would be nice to see some now and just a few seconds latter he spotted some up on a hill. We saw 3 ram's in the first bunch and the one in these photos is from a second bunch we saw. I have only seen a couple ewes one time before down by the Hoover dam but never any rams so this was one of the highlights of our drive. Now if someone had just remembered to bring the big lens! Business Portraits

Spent some time last night working on some business portraits of Bryan. We did some of the more traditional studio shots as well as worked on doing some outdoors for variety. Doing the studio type portrait gave me a chance to try out a new backdrop I bought to do portraits like these. I like the gray backdrop for this as I think the more neutral tone works better for a variety of different people. Overall we got several nice images as well as a few that were done to get some laughs because you should always have some fun!

Eastern Oregon

We recently took a trip up to Eastern Oregon to do some camping and fishing with family in the Logan Valley area. I love the area up there as there is a lot of scenic views and wildlife. We did some fly fishing on a couple of the creeks in the area, catching some Brook and Rainbow Trout that made a nice breakfast for everyone. This area also gave me some opportunities to practice some photography. Because of the wet winter and spring it was still really green up there and I like the way the green vegetation looked next to the full creeks. I would have liked to get some more wildlife images but for the most part the wildlife did not want to cooperate with that. Overall we had a great time.

Spring Has Sprung

Spring has sprung......I think. We have had more Spring like weather lately but we will probably be pushing into Summer like weather sooner than I like. Winter dragged on this year for a while so our spring will end up being short. This Daisy was just quick shot I took a few weeks ago while walking around Rancho San Rafael with the kids. There is a lot of variety there with a lot of different trees and flowers that it can be a nice place to just cruise around taking photos like this.

Wild Horses

These were a few photos of some wild horses I took the other day. I was wanting to spend some more time trying out a new camera and had seen these hoses out in a meadow so I figures they would make a good subject to work with for a bit. Did not last long though as it started to rain but I did get a few shots. With these horses hanging out in an area next to lots that were to be developed but have just been sitting for a couple years the hard part is composing a photo that does not include the trash and other stuff that is on the surrounding empty lots. You can see a little bit of it in the top of the middle picture. If I had of had more time I would have liked to recompose this to fully eliminate that from the frame.

The Town of Boca

I always new there used to be buildings they stored ice in at Boca but I never new how much stuff was there. I guess back in the day what started out as construction camp for the railroad back in 1868 actually grew enough to have a hotel, school house and just across the river was Boca Brewery which had a popular beer back in the day. There is really not much left to see there now but a few remnants of foundations, a cemetery and a few other items scattered about but there is a short little walk you can take around part of the site that has signs with information on the town. I like stuff like this as I find history interesting, especially local history. We did some exploring there last weekend as we were trying to get out and enjoy the weather......that has now turned back to windy, colder with a chance of rain and snow.

This is the flagpole from the school that used to be there.

Heading Down The Tracks

Over the weekend we spent sometime doing some exploring around Boca with the kids. We were actually walking around some of the area where the old town of Boca used to be which is near the train tracks so when the train came by we hung out and let the kids watch it go by. So exciting when you are a little kid! Actually I find the train somewhat interesting as well as there is a lot of history that surrounds it.

This one I was trying to do a panning shot, shooting at a slow shutter speed as you pan with the subject, to get the feeling of movement. It worked out a little different than what I was thinking because I really needed to be further away than I was but I still kind of like the effect I got out of the shot.
