Lines

In ways everything has lines so I thought that Line would be a good subject for L. At first I was thinking more of some architecture that had straight long lines to emphasize the subject, however I came up with this idea of taking a couple of the kitchen utensils that have good lines to them instead. I liked using these as the metal finish on these have no distracting color and so without shooting in black and white I get that simplified image that focuses more on the form than anything. I also wanted to work on blowing out the background and give the image more of a look similar to "high-key" photography.

Knees

Took me a while to come up with an idea for K that I somewhat liked. Then I came up with this idea of using scrabble pieces but I did not want to just photograph the letter K for this and be done, so I had this idea of spelling out the word knees with the scrabble letters and then having someone in the background (ended up being me yet again) with mainly their knees showing. I also liked the idea of the person being out of the focus area and blurred out slightly, for me this makes the word the focus with the background helping to reinforce the idea (also my knees being blurred out hopefully does not scare anyone away). I also felt a black and white conversion would bring more to the picture than leaving it in color.

Self Portrait

I did some portrait photos of a guy recently who needed a photo for his web site, so before hand over a few days I did several self portraits to practice and have down what I could do for him. I probably took 50 self portraits, most of which I deleted, figuring out the best way to light and pose it with the tools I have. These are a few I had taken during that process, minus the two horizontal shots at the bottom as those were taken today and I think were influenced by me spending too much time being harassed by the kids!

Jump Lego man Jump!

For J I had a some ideas for the word jump and thought I would try to do something with Lego's for this. I had the little Lego man suspended with some fishing line. Then in post processing I used the healing tool in Photoshop Express to remove what was visible of the line. I have seen some stuff online with Lego's and think some people get some really interesting photos using them as props so I will probably try more stuff some other time with them.

Hannah

So I guess Hannah's name starts with H so I thought I would use a picture of her, plus she kept saying for H I should do a picture of her. For this I just had her sitting on the stool in front of the sliding glass door and used the natural light. I even combed her hair! At least combing her hair is easier than combing Rachel's as Rachel cries most the time, she has such a sensitive head!

Sweet Basil

For G I am going for the simple Green or Growing. I have had a couple sweet basil plants and a tomato plant growing in our front window for months now. I had started them way to late in the growing season last summer to plant them outside so I decided to see if I could keep them alive for the winter indoors. So far they have done okay. The basil, being a smaller plant, has done better and if I had a window that received sun for a larger portion of the day the tomato plant would maybe have produced some tomatoes. So there you have it for G.
